DGDG will be presenting THE MOUSE RAN UP THE CLOCK, an exploration of the impact of social media dances and dance forms on the creation of a work for the stage. We asked ourselves: How do TikTok dance challenges translate to concert dance? We explored many dance challenges on the platform, researching the most popular to the most bizarre, and following the memetic form as they are deconstructed by critique and transmission across various platforms. We then took these new forms of social dance and placed them inside of the historical canon of both court dance and classical music. What happens when we view these pedestrian/gestural/spectacle short-form dances in a heightened performance reality?
